Preserving the Past to Give Direction to the Future

One of the inspirations for creating this website was the wonderful stories I was hearing from time to time about how Coupland has changed over the years. Some stories are big, like the history of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland. Some stories are small, but intriguing in their own way, like who used to live in the house my family now occupies.

Many years ago, I learned from a wise man why history is important to us. It’s very simple. When people are afflicted with amnesia . . . a loss of memory . . . they don’t say, “I don’t know who I was.” They say, “I don’t know who I am.”

If we, as a community, are to understand who we are today, we have to understand our collective past. To that end, I intend to collect the stories of Coupland on this site. I will talk to my neighbors and, with their permission, share their stories with you. If you would like to share the story of your family, your home, your business, your land, etc., I hope you will contact me to submit your stories, your pictures, and your videos.

What’s New in Coupland?

Coupland may look like a sleepy, country town to passers-by but we know better. There are events, big and small. There are new stories and new developments in old stories. There are births and deaths, comings and goings. The Coupland Times will be a place to catch the latest news and information that will keep you up to date. I will reach out to various people and organizations to establish conduits of information from multiple sources. I also encourage readers to submit news tips or even complete articles. Contributors must make a reasonable effort to ensure that information is accurate. Attribution to other sources must be included when appropriate and references for additional information are always a good idea.
