One of the inspirations for creating this website was the wonderful stories I was hearing from time to time about how Coupland has changed over the years. Some stories are big, like the history of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland. Some stories are small, but intriguing in their own way, like who used to live in the house my family now occupies.
Many years ago, I learned from a wise man why history is important to us. It’s very simple. When people are afflicted with amnesia . . . a loss of memory . . . they don’t say, “I don’t know who I was.” They say, “I don’t know who I am.”
If we, as a community, are to understand who we are today, we have to understand our collective past. To that end, I intend to collect the stories of Coupland on this site. I will talk to my neighbors and, with their permission, share their stories with you.
