This Week at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland – “Teach Me, O Lord!”

Submitted by Pastor Frank Dietz:

This is the Sunday of closure for Epiphany just prior to Transfiguration Sunday (2 Mar) and the launch of Lent on Ash Wednesday. The service proposes in the language of the 1 Corintians lesson (1Cor.3:10=11,16-23) and Jesus’s pointedness (Matt.5:38-48–concluding Matt’s “Sermon on the Mt”). Since the season of Epiphany is about a summons to be light in a dark, shadowy and troubling world, this Sunday “reboots” life directions richly in the Spirit’s gifts.

With an emphasis on Seminary/Church Vocations and an assurance to pursuing the questions we ask with integrity, we await word from our “still speaking, . . .” God. The Psalm, 119’s vv.33-40, lays a groundwork for the entire time of praise, prayer and discovery. All are always welcome.

This Week at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland

Submitted by Pastor Frank Dietz:

Sunday on the hill at St. Peter’s we’ll be deep into matters of the heart. Guided by both the Deuteronomy lesson and a continuation in Matthew’s fifth chapter, we’ll see Jesus after Joshua pointing toward critical choices to express and uplift life “in the neighborhood” very local and very global.

We hope those joining will “take time to be holy” and find the way of the heart, challenging as that may be. Indeed, “Choose life!”

This Week at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland – Your Part of the Deal

Submitted by Pastor Frank Dietz:

We will take an excursion into the most basic of Hebrew Scripture texts: Micah 6……and may see how Jesus launched his insights in part from the vv.6-8. That takes us to Matthew 5 and the Beatitudes….. An Abrahamic people (“Go be blessing….”) become those who “do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with our God,” and live true happiness in expressing the stewardship of life beatitudinally.

I know, it’s a mouthful but it is the heart of what our Christian calling is about!

I hope to introduce the children to a wonderful new book offered by Archbishop Desmund TuTu…..one who soulfully embraces the theme of the day.

This Week at St. Peter’s Church of Coupland – Go Fish

mormon-FishermanSubmitted by Pastor Frank Dietz:

This Sunday on the hill: the calling is for guys who fish, a Dad who “lets them go” follow this Jesus guy. Confirmands will assist us with an emphasis on the Sea, the Net and the Dad, Zebedee. Should be a fun way to deal with a very substantial challenge for the “stewardship of the remainder of our days!” Jesus does have a way even with the most unlikely of us folks!
