Annual Coupland Halloween Party – Participants Wanted for “Trunk or Treat”

I think this car gave up the ghost(s).

I think this car gave up the ghost . . . and a few of his buddies.

On Friday, October 31, the Coupland Civic Organization will hold its annual Halloween Party at the Depot—the second Trunk or Treat event. Last year, residents decorated vehicle trunks and the backs of SUV’s and pickups, parked them around the Depot grounds, and handed out candy to the children, who trick or treated from vehicle to vehicle. There will also be games and refreshments. This will be a fun and safe event where kids of all ages can enjoy Halloween.

Last year several residents donned costumes, decorated their trunks, and handed out candy to the trick or treaters. This year, we are hoping for even more decorated vehicles. If you’d like to participate, just decorate your trunk or the back of your SUV or pickup, wear a costume if you wish, bring some Halloween candy, and back up to the Depot lot, on Friday, October 31, 5:30-7:30 p.m. If you have any questions, please email Civic Organization President Susan Schmidt at susans195@yahoo.com. This will replace the regular, general meeting of the CCO.

That same night, the Old Coupland Inn & Dancehall is having a Family night Halloween with 3 bands and games for the kids. That night, there will be free admission for the kids. For those who are age 15 and older, admission will be $15.Please check back for information on the next monthly meeting, to be held on Monday, October 27, beginning at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland.

Choo Choo Fest 2014 Highlights and Images

Choo Choo Fest is a Coupland Civic Organization (CCO) fundraiser.  The very first Choo Choo Fest was in 2008 and was held outside, in downtown Coupland, and the funds raised went to restoring the Depot.  Then, after skipping a few years, Choo Choo Fest was held again in 2013, this time inside the Old Inn and Dancehall, in partnership with Tim and Barbara Worthy, with the funds raised allowing the CCO to begin restoration of the caboose.

So this 2014 event was the Second Annual Choo Choo Fest.  These two Fests that have been held inside the Inn have kept attendees out of the August sun in air-conditioned comfort.  Also, serving the meal has been much more convenient inside.  Attendees enjoyed the barbecue dinner.  For a minimum $10 donation, the dinner included barbecue chicken, pulled pork, beans, cole slaw, potato salad, bread, and iced tea.

This year’s bake sale featured a huge array of homemade desserts, sold whole or by the serving.  Also at the bake sale booth, Fundraising Co-Chairs Ruby Wabbel and Judy Downing sold the new Choo Choo Fest T-shirts.

The silent auction was so big, it overflowed its space.  During the Fest, people were still bringing in auction items, and some ended up being displayed on the bar.  The auction included original artwork, crafts, collectibles, toys, and more.

On the Dancehall stage, volunteer bands provided live music throughout the event, which raised about $6,800!

The CCO thanks all the directors, their families, and other community members who volunteered.  And a special big “thank you” to Barbara and Tim Worthy whose generous donation of food, the use of their facility and the help of their staff made Choo Choo Fest 2014 possible.

Coupland’s Choo-Choo Fest On August 17 — Fundraiser to Restore Historic Caboose

On Sunday, August 17, beginning at noon, the Coupland Civic Organization (CCO) will partner with Barbara and Tim Worthy, owners of the Old Coupland Inn and Dancehall, to hold the second annual Choo-Choo Fest, a fundraiser for the restoration of the CCO’s historic caboose.

Choo Choo Fest will be held in the beautiful Inn and Dancehall building. The barbecue meal will include delicious barbecue from the Inn and homemade beans, potato salad, coleslaw, bread, and iced tea. Meals will be offered for donations, minimum $10. Soft drinks, bottled water, and beer will be offered separately.

A bake sale will offer homemade desserts whole or by the serving. There will be a silent auction and live bands.

Last year’s Choo-Choo Fest allowed the CCO to restore three exterior sides of the caboose. Hopefully, this year’s proceeds will allow the CCO to restore the fourth exterior side, the windows, and possibly start on the interior. Both the historic Coupland Depot and caboose are owned by the CCO, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
